Shervin Hajipour, a 25-year-old Iranian singer, has become the first Iranian ever to win a Grammy award. Shervin Hajipour, born on March 30th, 1997, released a song named “Baraye,” which means “because of” or “for,” during Iranian protests for the death of Mahsa Amini.
Tweets inspired different users on Twitter to compose this song. In the early of the Iranian protests, which began in September 2022, Iranian Twitter users came up with sharing tweets with the concept of “why they want their regime to be changed.”
All tweets started with the word “for” and kept saying that things are in danger in Iran. Shervin Hajipour gathered all these tweets and composed a song that touched everyone’s heart, even non-Iranians.

What is the social Change Grammy Award?
The Best Song For Social Change Award, which differs from a standard GRAMMY®, is a Special Merit Award created especially to honor the authors of a song that has had a significant social impact.
Why Shervin Hajipour did not attend the Grammy Awards himself?
There is no official proof for this saying, but there are rumors telling us that Shervin is not allowed to leave the country after he released this famous song. You can see his reaction to winning the Social Change Grammy Award below this paragraph.
What happened to Shervin Hajipour after this song?
Before being named for the Grammy Award, Shervin Hajipour had already set an incredible record in his own country, Iran. He released his song on Instagram, and his post had 40 million views in less than two days.
Although everyone was calling his song a masterpiece on the internet, he was unhappy about his achievement. After a short time, Shervin Hajipour was arrested by the Iranian Intelligence Forces. His Instagram post with more than 40 million views was removed, as his page was.
After a couple of days, Shervin Hajipour was freed, and in an Instagram story, he published a video of himself telling people that he was feeling good and everything was ok. But there was a point in the story; people with special caps started this rumor that Shervin was made to say those words!
Of course, Shervin is not the only singer detained by the regime. Toomaj Salehi, a famous Iranian rapper, was also caught, and it has been more than 100 days since Toomaj Salehi has been in solitary.
